Silver Saturday I

Introduction to Precious Metal Clay

Students who have never worked with silver before will make two pieces of silver jewelry in this one-day workshop! The magic is PMC, Precious Metal Clay, a pliable, putty-like compound containing silver powder. It is molded, textured, and layered using simple tools. When fired, the binder burns away, leaving an ornament of 100% pure silver! In the morning session, students learn how to work with the PMC, create a small silver charm and use a portable torch. In the afternoon, students produce a second ornament, pendant or bead. Both pieces will be completely fired, polished and ready to wear at the end of this workshop.

Instructor Rosemary E. Gould earned her Master of Fine Arts Degree at Michigan State University and is an established artist and adjunct professor at North Central Michigan College.

This workshop is offered to those students who have worked with PMC, Precious Metal Clay, and are eager to learn more about this fascinating new way of creating metal jewelry! SILVER SATURDAY II will explore firing lab grown gems in metal clay. Students will set a gemstone in a simple ring during the morning session, and in the afternoon create a more elaborate pendant or bead. Both pieces will be ready to wear when you leave this workshop.
