Rosemary's newest inspiration involves the magic of Precious Metal Clay, or PMC®. A pliable, putty-like compound containing pure silver powder, PMC® can be molded, textured and layered using simple modeling tools. Once the design is complete and the piece has dried, it can then be fired with a small torch or in a kiln, so that the remaining water and binder are driven off. The resulting piece is identical to the object that was crafted, but now of 100% pure silver! After winning a "Teaching Excellence Grant" from North Central Michigan College in Spring 2011, Rosemary has become certified to teach PMC®, in specialized workshops and as a focus in jewelry courses at NCMC in Petoskey.
The metalwork shown below represents jeweled brooches. All have been constructed using hand-forged Mokumé gané in copper/silver/gold alloys, patinated to correspond with the various semi-precious gemstones used in each piece.
